History is a discipline that encourages students to be curious and critical. It helps them to understand how societies, technologies, boarders and ideas have changed across time and space. Only in doing so can our students really understand the present.

At Key Stage 3, students encounter a wide range of diverse histories at different scales, across different time periods, and in different geographical locations. Themes such as power, migration, empire, revolution, nationhood, ideas and identity are explored across the three years. Key skills such as analysing evidence and interpretations, writing to argue, and expressing complex ideas are developed across the Key Stage from the very start of Year 7.

Key Stage 4 builds on many of the themes discussed in Years 7 to 9. Our GCSE curriculum takes in British and international histories, including a topic on Elizabethan England, the US from 1920-1970, conflicts in the Middle East, and the development of Medicine over time. As a facilitating subject, students with a GCSE in History will have their choice of future studies and careers.
