‘International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on March 8th to commemorate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women worldwide. It is also a day to raise awareness about gender equality and advocate for women's rights. International Women's Day serves as a reminder of the progress made and the work still to be done towards achieving true gender equality. As a girls school recognising and celebrating women's achievements is not only a matter of justice and equality but also essential for building inclusive societies and fostering sustainable development. It is important to us as a school because International Women's Day holds significant importance in highlighting the progress made towards gender equality while also acknowledging the ongoing challenges and inequalities that women continue to face.’

‘As part of our celebrations, students took part in workshops throughout the day. At the workshops there was an incredible amount of awe-inspiring women who shared their well-aged wisdom, from life experiences to periods. According to multiple Year 8 sources the period workshops for Years 7, 8 and 9 had a lasting impact proven by their ability to recall key information. For instance, 44% of girls do not understand what happens during their period. This statistic alone emphasises how important these workshops are and indeed the continued relevance of International Women's Day. Furthermore, many Year 8s learnt new information on how to manage their periods, a majority of them were not aware of period cups for instance! In addition to these workshops Year 10 also took part in their own set of talks broaching difficult topics and research material. One workshop identified deep rooted issues in intersectional feminism - adultification. Another workshop wholesomely encouraged open discussions on self love and identity while facing tougher topics such as personal insecurities. Overall, every workshop was crafted beautifully to make this year's International Women's Day something to remember.’
