Staff at WPSfG complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge 15th July 2023!

On Saturday 15th July 2023 27 members of staff at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is 24-miles (38.6km) round trip route and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres), usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. These hills form part of the Pennine range and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

'Our coach trip was epic, and our journey started with a lack of sleep before we even started. It was extremely challenging!  We started off at 6am with 27 of us - by Peak 3, 9 of us were left standing. It was a great weekend of team building and overcoming our own individual barriers. I am extremely proud of everyone who came along, and it is a privilege to work alongside such caring and supportive colleagues.'

Ms Williams

It was relentless. On all levels.  12+ hours of non-stop walking with only 3 minutes breaks is brutal in itself. Then throw in high winds, rain, hail, thunder and lightning, and some mental climbing. I am broken but what an achievement.'

Ms Holmes

'Thoroughly enjoyed climbing the Yorkshire Peaks. I internally cried but externally laughed so much thanks to my colleagues - well worth it!'

Ms Adkins
